School Consultation

Children spend more time in school than any other endeavor in their young lives. When academic or behavioral problems occur, they can have a severely negative impact on a child’s mental health. This can result in excessive crying, blow-ups, and school refusal. We can help assess the reasons your child is having problems by doing a school observation and/or consulting with the child’s teacher about the nature of the problem. We can then develop a plan to help remediate the problem, which often involves the teacher doing a positive behavior program, the child having more positive ways to communicate and cope, and the parents implementing behavior supports at home. In some instances, the child may need to be further evaluated to rule out attention and learning problems. At last resort, a change in school environment may be warranted. If so, we can help identify the school with the best learning environment for your child.
